REUSE THE NYMPHAEUM
Year: 2022
Type: Competition project
Location: Genazanno, Rome
Team: Abaieva Anna, Victoria Haivoronska
Competiotion brief:
The Bramante Nymphaeum is a unique architecture by Donato Bramante, built at the beginning of the fifteenth century by the Colonna family in Genazanno, near Rome. It was the main element of a big garden, with lakes and a small river, realized on the hillside next to the main door of the town. It has been abandoned soon after its completion and the lack of sources led to many misunderstandings about its origin and function.
Participants of this competition are asked to reuse this space as a theater and a park.
THE RUIN
tezt
The state of Bramante's Nymphaeum now
While originally designing this Nymphaeum, Donato Bramante took great inspirationin famous Basilica of Maxentius. The proposal is to continue this idea, using modern methods, structures and materials, still keeping to the original planning and shapes. Theproposal is also mean to preserve the Nymphaeum from further ruining, by reinforcing it with steel and covering it with metal and glass structure. New structures play on cotrast with the existing ruin, differing in color pallette and standing out with curvy shapes.
